Because He Lives...We Stand Firm

May 31, 2026    Jordan Decker

This message explores Peter’s closing words to a suffering and weary church in 1 Peter 5:6–11. Peter reminds believers that we do not stand firm by trying harder, gripping tighter, or carrying our burdens alone. Instead, we stand firm by leaning into the living Christ.

Because Jesus is alive, we can trust God’s mighty hand to sustain us. Peter calls us to humble ourselves before God, cast our anxieties on him because he cares for us, resist the schemes of the enemy through God’s power, and lean into the support of God’s people. In a world filled with suffering, spiritual opposition, and uncertainty, followers of Jesus are invited to find strength not in themselves but in God’s care, God’s power, and God’s family.

The sermon concludes with Peter’s beautiful promise that the God of all grace will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish his people. Because Jesus lives, we can face every trial with confidence, knowing that God is with us, cares for us, and will faithfully carry us through.

We stand firm by leaning into God's care, God's power, and God's people.
